About Us:
WELCOME!!! We are Yvette and Lisa - sisters who love animals. We grew up with dogs at home as kids and young adults. One very snowy day in London, ON, we opened the family house’s front door to a five foot high snow drift - and screamed at our parents that there was a black bear on the front lawn. Lucky for us it wasn’t a bear but a black Newfoundland dog that had used the snow drifts to escape his owners backyard and was loving having a tumble in the fresh powder. We were smitten, and Indy, a Newfoundland dog, became our first family pet.
When we finally ;) left the nest, dogs were integral to our lives, with all their funny antics. We each fell in love with hunting dogs, that taught us a lot about not just varying physical exercise, but that dogs need mental stimulation as well.
We were introduced to the Miniature American Shepherd breed by a chance encounter when I returned home to Canada, from the UK with my Belgium warmblood Samson. The barn where we decided to board him had a beautiful red merle. That we mistakenly thought was an Australian Shepherd, but compact. We were looking to downsize (MAS are small when you start with a Newfy :), but with a breed that could participate in our family outdoor activities - from hacking with Samson, to swimming at the cottage, to hiking, but would have an ‘off’ switch and enjoy relaxing in the home with us too.
We welcomed our first MAS pet in 2018. We loved him so much, we welcomed two more into our homes. After getting so many folks stopping us during walks, on the pub patio, at the office, at the barn, and on the boat, inquiring about our goofy little mini’s we decided to start our own kennel to share this wonderful breed with others.
Thank you for taking the time to research the breed and to find a reputable breeder that works for you. A little about Dramatic Paws - a suitable name for these characters !!! We do not run a large kennel operation. All of our dogs live in the home with us. While I knew dogs - even of the same breed - have different personalities, it took having multi-minis in the family to truly understand their differing temperaments. Thus while we are very open to your choice of colour and gender, we can help match the temperament to your desire and lifestyle.
All of our MAS Dams and Sires have full direct genetic testing for MDR1, PRA-PRCD, DM, HC(HSF4), CMR1, NAD, etc. As well as OFA testing for hips and elbows. We want to make sure that we are producing top quality MAS with all of the health screening possible.
Health testing is one key component, and temperament is equally important. Our dogs have lived with us, socialized with our family and friends, gone to the cottage, gone to the office with us !!! They are exposed to a variety of environments and their lives are enriched through games that train, and extracurricular activities to ensure they have exceptional temperaments.
